SASU Rules of Conduct

Index back to top

1. Introduction back to top

The following are the core rules of conduct of SASU. All SASU members are expected to abide by them at all times. Those who do not will be subjected to our discipline procedure, which might result in their exclusion from the organization.

If any SASU member witnesses another member breaking a SASU rule, they should notify an officer of the matter. More details can be found in our Handlings disagreements between SASU members thread.

If any SASU member witnesses a player who is not a SASU member commiting an egregious violation of SASU rules (Ninja-ing, threats of physical harm, etc.), they are encouraged to notify a SASU officer of the events, so that the situation might be evaluated and preventive measures taken if necessary. Such preventive measures might include inclusion on the SASU's Persona non grata list.

2. Member Conduct back to top

  • SASU members must act in a mature fashion in their dealings both inside and outside SASU. This includes treating each other and others with honesty and respect, and includes participation on the SASU channel, on the forums, and during any SASU-sponsored activities, including raids and role-playing events. While role-playing is not required, all SASU members must be RP-friendly.
  • Any criticism toward another player should be constructive and presented in a friendly manner.
  • Personal issues should be solved between the people involved, and are inappropriate for public discussion.
  • SASU member guilds may not actively recruit from within SASU's ranks. It is understood that free agents may find a home within a SASU guild, or that SASU members may join or change guilds for their own reasons, but it is expected that guilds will respect their freedom to choose and will not try to recruit them or any other members of SASU.

3. Raid Rules back to top

  • Signing up for a SASU raid is a commitment, whether the sign-up is made through the SASU forums or through an in-game calendar. SASU members who sign up for a SASU raid are expected to attend that raid. If unexpected real life issues come up and prevent you from participating in the raid, please inform the raid leader (in game, via the forums, or via another player) as soon as possible. Abandoning a raid for a different in-game activity is not allowed. Members who have signed up and failed to show up without any justification may find themselves subjected to disciplinary measures.
  • Each raid must include a policy for its alt-listed members within its sign-up sheet. Alt-listed members who do not meet the obligations stated in this policy may be subjected to disciplinary measures, at the raid leader's discretion.
  • SASU believes that raids "belong" to those who put the effort into making them happen. SASU offers Raid Leaders access to the channel for recruiting, and to forum resources such as sign-up sheets, calendar listings, and dedicated board space. To use SASU resources, we require that raids be fairly conducted and transparent in their policies and decision-making.
    • Fairly conducted means that the rules by which the raid operates, such as loot rules, should be knowable in advance and cannot be changed mid-raid.
    • Transparent means that raids should have clear policies for things like conduct in Ventrilo, minimum gear requirements, class balance, how roster spots are assigned, and who may or may not get to participate in the raid. A Raid Leader has discretion to ban any person from their raid, but must inform SASU officers of any raid bans imposed and include the reasoning for it. Within these confines, raids should treat all SASU members equally.
A raid that violates these principles may be denied SASU resources.
  • If disputes emerge between a raider and a raid leader, or a raider believes that a SASU raid is violating the aforementioned principles, please consult our guidelines on handling disagreements between raiders and raid leaders.

4. Loot Rules back to top

Each raid within SASU formulates its own loot rules, which are subject to officer review if necessary. However, the following rules are absolute, and may not be circumvented by any individual raid or player:

  • SASU Raid Leaders must make their loot rules known prior to the start of the raid, usually by posting them alongside their sign-up sheet.
  • SASU members may not circumvent the established loot rules within a SASU party or raid, a practice that is often referred to as ninjaing.

5. Channel Rules back to top

The SASU channel exists as a means for members of SASU to communicate, work together, and achieve more than they could without the help of others. As a goal oriented, purposeful tool for that communication it is OUR channel and it is meant for OUR uses. Only by being responsible to that purpose can we maintain the channel as a useful tool for our members. Thus, as members we expect you to follow and advise others of these rules:

  • Any SASU member in good standing is welcome, as are non-members visitors seeking information about SASU.
  • Access to the SASU channel is not a right, but a privilege. It may thus be revoked at SASU's discretion.
  • Visitors are not allowed to seek groups on the SASU channel or respond to group requests. Visitors must obtain membership before being allowed to seek or join groups via the SASU channel. Visit our how to join SASU page to learn more about joining.
  • Please use proper English only. Text-speech and LFG-speech should be used with extreme parsimony. This is not a hard and fast rule, and will be enforced at the officers' discretion. Examples of forbidden constructs are "u", "LFG", "PST", "any1", "w/e". However, we will most likely let things such as abbreviated instance names, "FYI" or "AFK" slide.
  • SASU members are free to recruit groups, but may not spam the channel repeatedly in a short period of time. If a group is not primarily composed of SASU members, advertisements to recruit for it should be clear regarding that fact.
  • Keep your language and topics clean. Given the wide variety of SASU members, off-color jokes will be offensive to some people.
